ALISO NIGUEL HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA PROGRAM

GRADING POLICY:  2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR

  

ACADEMIC GRADE

The academic grade will be based on the following philosophy:

The musical and mental growth of each student is the class objective-- not the best possible performance at all and any cost.  Each student is the most important person in the class.  Each student has a major influence on all the others in the class, and each student is equally responsible for the success of the class.

 

The semester grade will be based on the percentage of the total semester points.

A= 100% -90%        B=89%-80%         C=79%-70%     D=69%-60%      F=59% -

 

Points will be awarded for each of the areas below:

 

Class Attendance, Participation - attendance in class, required tutorials, punctuality, preparedness for class (instrument, music, equipment, pencil, etc.), and daily class effort.

An excused absence from a class period can be made up by coming to one tutorial per hour missed.

 

Concerts, performances, special events, and special rehearsals - attendance at all concerts, performances, special events, and special rehearsals (both during and after school and tutorials) is mandatory.  Note:  An absence for any reason from a concert, performance, special event, or special rehearsal cannot be made up.  

 

Musicianship - musical growth, playing ability, playing tests, theory tests, history test, ear-training, original compositions, poster projects

 

 

 

 

CITIZENSHIP GRADE

The citizenship grade will be a reflection of the academic grade. 

The citizenship grade will be based on:

            Attendance - class, rehearsals, performances, tardiness, truants

            Attitude - willingness to learn and work with others

Participation - completion of assignments, individual practice, bringing all materials to class

            Respect - for other students, teachers, staff
